To disable any services Click start Type services.msc in searchbox. In the right pane double click on any service name a properties dialogue will come up in the Startup Type field select disable similarly if you want to set a service to manual then select manual in this field. For you knowledge I am listing what does Automatic, Manual and Disabled startup Types Mean?
Configuration Information
Automatic (Delayed Start) ~ Starts the service but with delay.
Automatic ~ With a service in this state, it will start at boot time. Some services, when no longer
required, will also automatically stop when not needed. However, this is very rare. If you find
you do not need a service, place it into Manual or Disabled.
Manual ~ Manual mode allows Windows to start a service when needed. However, very few
services will start up when required in Manual mode. If you find you need a service, place it into
Automatic.
Disabled ~ This setting will stop a service from starting, even if needed. Errors in the Event
Viewer will show up complaining of that fact. Some services, while Disabled, will constantly
complain. However, this situation is taken care of if placed in Manual. The service descriptions
identifies those that should be in Manual vice Disabled
If you are not connected to any network using windows at home set these services to manual.
Terminal Services - Allows users to connect interactively to a remote computer. Remote Desktop and Terminal Server depend on this service. If you don’t use either of these, then you can disable the service.
IKE and AuthIP IPSec keying modules – IKE and AuthIP IPSec keying modules. Unless you are doing crazy VPN stuff, home users have little use for this service.
Offline Files – The Offline Files service performs maintenance activities on the Offline Files cache, responds to user logon and logoff events, implements the internals of the public API, and dispatches interesting events to those interested in Offline Files activities and changes in cache state. If you do not need this feature then
WebClient – Enables Windows-based programs to create, access, and modify Internet-based files. If this service is stopped, these functions will not be available. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. This service is used for things like web folder and WEB DAV. If you are like me and don’t use these services, then disable them.
Server – Supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this computer. If this service is stopped, these functions will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.
Set these services to Manual Any User can do it
Desktop Window Manager Session Manager – Provides Desktop Window Manager startup and maintenance services.
If you don’t plan on using Aero Glass, you can disable this service.
Diagnostic Policy Service – Enables problem detection, troubleshooting and resolution for Windows components
Diagnostic Service Host - Enables problem detection, troubleshooting and resolution for Windows components
Diagnostic System Host - Enables problem detection, troubleshooting and resolution for Windows components
Distributed Link Tracking Client – Maintains links between NTFS files within a computer or across computers in a network.
Tablet PC Input Service – Enables Tablet PC pen and ink functionality
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service - Shares Windows Media Player libraries to other networked players and media devices using Universal Plug and Play
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) – Provides image acquisition services for scanners and cameras. Not used? disable it.
HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service – This service detects and monitors CUE devices on the system.
Machine Debug Manager - Supports local and remote debugging for Visual Studio and script debuggers. If this service is stopped, the debuggers will not function properly.
Print Spooler – Loads files to memory for later printing. If you do not have a printer or do not want to print using XPS documents then disable this service.
