Although I’m not a book worm, it’s always my dream to download all latest technology books and keep them in my catalog. I can’t buy all of the books so I prefer having free ebooks rather than having to pay for them. Google Books is one place where I can find most of the books I’m looking for and I can atleast read some of the book’s contents without paying. But I want the book to be offline so that I may be able to read the books when I’m offline.
Today I found Google Book Downloader which is a solution to my problem. Google Books Downloader is a free software which downloads full ebooks from Google Books and save them to your local system as a PDF file which can later be opened with your PDF reader.
It requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1
It’s basic usage is as follows:
- Run application.
- Go to Google Books and find the book you want to download.
- Find the code of the book (in the URL)
Example: This is the URL of Windows Vista for Dummies. You can find the book code highlighted in the URL:
http://books.google.com/books?id=UeyMCeXM8BIC&printsec=frontcover&dq=vista - Paste the book code of the book you want to download in Google Book Downloader.
- Press “Check” button. Book will be checked and all available pages will be retrieved.
- Press “Download entire book” button. All available pages will be downloaded. It can take a while.
- Press “Save entire book as…” button. All downloaded pages will be saved. It can take a while.

I’ve had the same problem as vandal. Anyone got it working yet?
i’ve laready cancelled my download..it’s a waste of time! but thanks anyway for sharing this,i hope it will be developed better..
vandal actually I have downloaded a lot of books and most interestingly all the pages of the book get downloaded even those which are not included in the preview. Some of the books make problems. So you can try with some book. I’m sure your book will be downloaded.
ok i’ll try again..thanks for the response..
Sanix I still can’t download, could it be that i’m getting the wrong ebook code?for example the url for dan brown’s angels & demons is
http://books.google.com/books?.....%26+demons
so the book code there is: gZr4HwAACAAJ
am I right?it still takes so long just for the checking..or does it depend on the number of pages of the ebook?angels & demons is 700+ pages..
Hmmm, still no luck for me too, and I’ve tried several books
Does it have to do with webproxies?
Crazyhorse, let me counter check with my method again. I’ll be back with success
Google have patched the iterative-loop-preview method, so GDB no longer works.
Hyram that’s not a good news at all. I loved this software as it could download my favourite books through google. Lets wait for the author to update the software so it works on the new google books.
