How To Restore Compressed (Zipped) Folder in Send To Menu
Kavi from Gujrat has asked about how to restore compressed (Zipped) Folder in Send To Menu. Here is his question reproduced:
Recently i am facing one new problem. in my pc when i try to send any file to Compress doing right click on it, where the option SEND TO COMPRESSED FOLDER should be visible, that is disappear from the menu.
I have to send about 10mb of excel files to my company and such file must be compressed, i don’t know suddenly why this facility gone from the right click menu,
The file compression utility is included in Windows XP by default. If you can’t find the shortcut of Compressed (Zipped) Folder in your Send To menu, please follow the instructions below:
Method 1:
Go to Start –> Run and copy and paste the following command:
rundll32 zipfldr.dll,RegisterSendto
This will automatically restore Compressed (Zipped) Folder in Send To Menu.
Method 2:
Just download this Compressed (Zipped) Folder file, unzip it and save it in the following location:
C:Documents and Settings%username%SendTo
where C is your Operating System drive and %username% is your user folder which you’ll find in Documents and Settings.
If you still have problems, please let me know through comments. Share your experiences.
add compressed folder to send to, cannot send to compressed folder, COMPRESSED, compressed folder .exe, compressed zip folder download, compressed zipped folder, compressed zipped folder download, compressed zipped folder exe, compression utility, documents and settings, download compressed zip folder, download compressed zipped folder, Downloads, file compression, RegisterSendto, restore "missing send" "compressed zipped folder" send, restore compressed zipped folder, restore send to compressed folder, right click menu, send to compressed folder, send to compressed folder disappeared, send to compressed zip not showing, send to compressed zipped folder, sendto, sendto zip windows, technize, technize.com, windows compressed folder exe, Windows XP, www.technize.com, xp send to zip

I tried both of your suggestions and it still doesn’t work (the link to the file you had does not work anymore). Right now, the “Compressed(zipped) Folder” is in the location you said, “C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\SendTo” but it’s icon is that of not belonging to a program that will work with it. I thought it was a internal Windows feature and shouldn’t have to be associated with a certain program. Let me know if you can help with this or other suggestions. Thanks!
I followed the directions to reinstall the send to compresed folder. Now I have an icon (Jasc) and am unable to open the compressed folder. Now what??
Please help. I am not tech savvy at all.
Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much for this tip. Method 1 worked perfectly! Life saver!
I am using Vista…and it is not clear to me whether the instructions on this page are for XP or Vista or both. But…I’ve followed similar instructions found on other pages for Vista. I got to the point where I could Send to and it appeared to be sending 6 very small files to a zip file but eventually I got the message….cannot complete this operation, access denied. When I try again, I’m back where I started…unable to complete this operation access denied.
When I try to regsvr32 zipfldr, I get the message that the zipfldr was loaded but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found…Make sure the zipfldr is a valid DLL or OCX file.
So then I tried METHOD 1 above…not knowing if this is for XP or Vista and this is the message I get….Error in zipfldr.dll Missing Entry : RegisterSendTo.
I’ve had this problem since the day I got my Vista computer (2 yrs ago)…I have all of the Vista updates. I am so sick of Vista I could scream. Just waiting to find the time to upgrade to Windows 7…if I can.
Thanks for any advice forthcoming on this problem.
Just one more thing….I am pretty sure the problem is some sort of permissions problem but I’ve checked directories and files in the SendTo folders (both the Default and the User folders) and I can’t see were a permission is incorrect.
