Registry Editing Has Been Disabled By Your Administrator

by Sanix in Windows on July 2, 2007

Today a friend of mine asked that his registry editor had been disabled accidentally and now how should he enable it back again. Here are three ways to enable the registry editing in Windows. If Windows Registry Editor has been disabled, it shows the following error message:

“Registry Editing Has Been Disabled By Your Administrator”

windowslivewriterregistryeditinghasbeendisabledbyyouradmi ee6cregeditdisable thumb Registry Editing Has Been Disabled By Your Administrator

1- From Group Policy Editor

Go to Run –> gpedit.msc
In the left hand menu, go to User Config –> Administrative Templated –> System.
Now In the right hand pane, select “Prevent access to registry editing tools”. It will probably be not configured or enabled. If it’s enabled, disable it and if it’s not configured, first enable it, apply settings and then disable it. Most probably the settings have been applied instantly. If not, then run gpupdate in command prompt to apply the group policies.

2- From the Run Menu

I got this tweak while surfing the internet. Go to Start –> Run, copy and paste the follow in the Run box and press OK.

REG add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

The effects are usually instant. If not then you should see the results after restarting your computer.

3- Using Smart Virus Remover

If none of the above methods work, please download our Smart Virus Remover from here:

Smart Virus Remover (889.9 KiB, 778,658 hits)

Using this Virus Remover please restore your Windows settings and your registry editor will be re-enabled.

if task manager does not appear….
one way is ..
try to restore it to some earlier date..
otherwise format…

Reply

25 ashish November 8, 2007 at 11:33 pm

answer to comment 14…
in control panel go to user accounts..
third option is change the ways users log in..

u are not able to change it…
am i right..
then go this way..
“go to my network place”..
then select ..
“view network connections”
right click….
“propertiess”…
fourth option…
internet protocol..
select it..
uninstall it by option given just below it..
and it is done……

namar you should download the flashy remover from the following location:
http://www.technize.com/2009/01/18/how-to-remove-flashyexe-virus

After removing the virus, you should download Smart Virus Remover from the following location and restore your Windows settings including Registry editor, task manager, Folder Options etc.

This really helped, all my life with my PC, I’d always never been able to edit my registry and that almost drove me to the point of dumping the whole system. I just thought I’d search for solutions on the web and after a long travel through other websites without solution, I found this website and here I am saying I CAN NOW EDIT MY REGISTRY…thanks to you, Sanix.

Thanks. This worked. I’d still love to know the cause of this though. Is it because of some virus? I’m running a full system scan as we speak… hope it’s nothing serious.

Thanks again!

@Thanks,
Most of the times, this is done by viruses or otherwise if you’re in a network, then an administrator can also disable registry editing.
