While using Windows Vista, I have noticed some sluggish performance due to extensive services running in the background. Though the background services does many tasks automatically without user intervention it slow down system performance.
Microsoft for the first time has taken the advantage of Task Scheduler in Windows Vista. Many tasks are performed event wise, but due to system hogging it is better to disable some of them.
In the start search box type task scheduler to launch it.
On the left hand side expand Task Scheduler (Local) -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows. Now point to the following folders. When you click on a folder the tasks get loaded and then you will see a screen where different tasks will be showing. Right click and then disable them.
- Bluetooth
if you have no bluetooth device on hand then disable this task
UninstallDevice
- Media Center
If you do not use Windows Media Center on daily basis then you can disable these tasks
mcupdate
updaterecordpath
ehDRMInit
- MobilePC
If you have no Windows Mobile Phone then disable the following task.
TMM
- scheduledDefrag
If you use some other Defragmenting software like Diskeeper then you can disable the task in this folder
- SystemRestore If you do not use system Restore to restore in a bad event. Then disable the ony one task in this folder
- Tcpip Disable these tasks
Ipaddressconflict1 and 2
Now I am listing some of the services that are not required by a general user. To disable a service in the start search box type Services. Double click a service and then select Disabled in the start type. Disable these services
Volume Shadowcopy if you do not want previous versions of a file
IPHelper if u dont use IPV6
