The AMD Ryzen 3 4300U is a 64-bit quad-core mobile processor based on Zen 2 architecture. Its base clock speed is 2.7GHz but it’s capable of boosting up to 3.7GHz (based on the number of active cores), thanks to AMD Boost technology which is designed for fast-paced games and applications. It is aimed at the performance mobile segment, specifically for thin and light laptops, including gaming laptops.
The chip is built on TSMC’s FinFET 7nm process, with four cores activated. It features 2MB of L2 cache per core, shared 4MB L3 cache shared across all cores and PCIe gen 3 for its GPU. Furthermore, the chip also supports a DDR4 memory channel that operates up to 3200MHz for high-speed storage solutions as well as an LPDDR4 memory controller that runs up to 4266MHz RAM thus saving on power consumption for laptops.
The CPU has an integrated AMD Radeon Vega 5 graphics operating at 1.4GHz, with up to 4GB of video RAM supported for game titles running in Full HD resolution. It will also support Windows 10 and 11 PlayReady 3.0 content protection for premium video content downloaded from the web, including Ultra HD Blu-ray movies. All these operate at a default TDP of 15W that can be configured between 10-25W in an ambient mode which allows the processor to operate at a lower frequency without generating too much heat, reducing fan noise but also reducing performance.
The performance should be acceptable for typical Microsoft Office tasks, web browsing, and should also be able to stream video content. The Ryzen 3 4300U graphics adapter is good for light and basic gaming performance, however, you may also play some more demanding games at lower graphics settings. Generally, these chips are less suited for more demanding applications like gaming or video editing. For that, dedicated graphics cards are advisable. Consider purchasing processors with improved performance, higher clock speeds, and better integrated Radeon Vega graphics.
