Intel Core i5-10310U Laptop Processor (Review & Specifications)

Intel Core i5-10310U is a power-efficient processor with a Comet Lake-U architecture launched in the second quarter of 2020. The processor is designed using Intel’s old 14nm processing technology with four cores and eight threads (because of hyper-threading support) along with 6 MB of Intel smart L3 cache. The cores run at a base frequency of 1.7 GHz which can turbo boost to a maximum clock speed of 4.4 GHz. The default TDP is set at 15W which can be configured up to 25W when all the cores are operating at a frequency of 2.2 GHz. Also, it can be configured as low as 10W when the cores are operating at a clock frequency of 800 MHz.

This processor supports an integrated UHD Graphics 620 with 24 execution units which is similar to the integrated graphics card of its predecessor Intel Core i5-10210U. The graphics is clocked at a base frequency of 300 MHz which can turbo boost to up to 1.15 GHz. The processing graphics have access to a maximum of 32 GB of physical memory. Additionally, it has three displays supported, that is HDMI, DP, and DVI that can support a maximum 4K resolution at 60Hz, 4096 x 2304 at 60Hz display setting for DP and eDP and 4096 x 2304 at 24Hz for HDMI. Therefore, your device can smoothly handle high-resolution displays with some noteworthy improvements in battery life through power optimization.

The Core i5-10310U was released as an improvement over the Core i5-10210U. The chip has a 2.65% faster CPU speed (4 x 1.7GHz vs 4 x 1.6GHz), 0.2GHz higher turbo speed, and 50MHz higher iGPU turbo speed. Performance-wise, Core i5-10310U is slightly faster in both single-threaded and multithreaded workloads according to PassMark benchmark results. In comparison to Core i5-1135G7, the Core i5-10310U is quite slow despite the fact it consumes 11% less power than Core i5-1135G7 and that it has a 0.2GHz higher turbo boost frequency.

Overall, Core i5-10310U can comfortably handle multithreaded workloads. The processor will be a great choice for working with multiple programs simultaneously, video editing, and standard office tasks which can easily perform up to eight threads of performance at the same time.

Other notable features of the Intel Core i5-10310U are its support for both the dual DDR4-2666 memory modules as well as LPDDR3-2133, LPDDR4-2933 memory modules along with features PCIe 3.0 with a maximum number of 16 lanes (which comes with different PCIe configurations/lanes). The maximum memory bandwidth for this CPU is 45.8 GB/s with a maximum memory capacity of 64GB.
