Does ASUS Make Good Gaming Laptops?

With tons of manufacturers producing gaming laptops, you might be having a difficult time finding your ideal laptop. You’re probably looking for a laptop with great speed, a lot of memory, good graphics, and a lot of processing power. Well, with this article, I’m going to turn your attention to ASUS, one of the top gaming laptop manufacturers. Hopefully, after reading this article, you’ll be that much closer to finding your ideal laptop.

Why ASUS?

ASUS laptops come with a wide range of specs that allow them to be used by all kinds of people including farmers, programmers, and, of course, gamers. Also, they are good-looking, affordable, portable, and come with a 12-month warranty.

CPU

The CPU decodes the game’s commands and player feedback. The CPU handles things like NPCs, the game world, and simulations. Therefore, games with a greater emphasis on physical simulations (such as Kerbal Space Program), require a capable CPU. So, for a laptop to deliver good gaming, it has to have a good CPU.

ASUS gaming laptops come with a wide variety of CPUs that are perfectly capable of supporting games that need higher simulations. Some of the best gaming laptops that ASUS carries are AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, 9th-Gen Intel Core i5 – i9, 10th-Gen Intel Core i7, Intel Core i7-i9.

All these CPUs feature multi-cores and threads that are great for playing high-performance games without glitches or other issues. Some of them even support high refresh-rate monitors.

Graphics

Most modern games demand a lot from GPUs, perhaps even more than from CPUs. Processing 2D/3D graphics, mapping polygons, rendering textures, and other tasks necessitate the use of fast GPUs. Basically, the higher the fps (frames per second), the better your graphics card (GPU) can process the input from a game.

ASUS gaming laptops come with GPUs like NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 – 1070, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti — RTX 2060, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, which are suitable for games that play at 1440p Quad HD (or higher) and Virtual reality headsets. If you intend to use either of the two major PC gaming VR platforms – the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift – these GPUs are perfect for you.

RAM

The amount of RAM you need is determined by whether you plan to play games in concentrated sessions or whether you intend to stream and multitask.

In the gaming world, 8GB has been deemed the minimum for AAA games. That said, RAM demand is rising. For instance, some recently released games recommend 12GB of RAM for optimal performance, while others require a minimum of 12GB just to run with basic settings. So, 16GB is suggested (for sufficient latency) if you intend to play new versions of games in the future.

That said, if you want to be able to multitask while playing games, you should consider 32GB. This will allow you to live-stream, use Discord chat groups, and run YouTube or Twitch. In any case, ASUS has all kinds of RAM – 32GB, 16GB DDR4-3200, 16 GB – so you’re sure to find what you need.

Screen

Screen resolution is an important aspect to consider. Higher resolutions provide you with more screen space to run a game; they also provide increased image clarity. Therefore, ASUS offers Full HD (1920×1080), WQHD (2560×1440), and UHD (3840×2160), etc. variations in their gaming laptops.

The refresh rate is the frequency with which an object on your display is refreshed. Since the screen changes the orientation of each target more quickly at higher refresh speeds, on-screen movement is smoother. (This is especially useful for players tracking enemies in first-person shooter games.) The best refresh rate for high-end games is 144Hz which you will find on ASUS gaming laptops along with 60 Hz and 120 Hz.

For a good gaming experience and to maintain portability, ASUS offers a range of 14-inch to 17.3-inch gaming laptops. Many of them come equipped with Non-glare/anti-glare screens and some even have G-Sync and Adaptive Sync in case you want to further enhance your gaming experience.

Storage

SSDs provide fast loading times; therefore, they are the preferred storage medium for most gamers. An SSD with 256 GB of storage space is good enough for daily use, however, it is likely to hinder gaming performance because many popular games require more than 50 GB of storage space. If you do the math, you’ll see that you can only store about 3 to 4 games on a 256 GB SSD which is why ASUS offers a 52 GB – 1Tb SSD. However, some of their laptops go even further: they come with an additional 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 or 1TB HDD, which is just outstanding!
